MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
What an amazing start to term 2 we have had!
The students have all come back to school and settled so nicely back into the routines of school and learning.
NAPLAN Success
Congratulations to our Grade 3 and 5 students for successfully completing NAPLAN at the end of last term. Their dedication and perseverance throughout the assessments were fantastic to see. A huge thank you to our teachers and support staff for preparing and guiding our students through this important milestone.
Harmony Day
Harmony Day was a wonderful celebration of inclusivity, respect, and belonging. Students engaged in cultural activities, shared stories, and embraced the theme "Everyone Belongs." Thank you to our staff and families for making the day so meaningful!
BFSM at Sherbourne PS
We welcomed BFSM (Before & After School Care Program) to Sherbourne Primary School. This has been a fantastic addition to our school community, providing quality care and activities for our students.
Swimming Pool Update
Great news! The school pool is on track to be completed by the end of Term 2. It will be run by Platypus Pond, offering swimming lessons and water safety programs for our students.
Inter-School Sport Training & Trials
Throughout Term 1, students have been actively training and trialling for inter-school sports. Their enthusiasm and teamwork have been inspiring, and we’re excited for the upcoming competitions that will start in week 3 on a Friday.

HARMONY DAY
What an incredible celebration we had with Bianca Fenn School of Music and our fabulous Sherbourne choir! These talented students had only three practice sessions, yet their energy, enthusiasm, and teamwork lit up the room.
It was pure joy to see our families, staff, and kinder friends from Guardian joining in the fun. Music truly brought us together in the spirit of Harmony Day—celebrating belonging, diversity, and community.
Throughout the day, students engaged in meaningful activities, shared stories of their cultural backgrounds, and enjoyed food from their heritage. It was a beautiful way to learn from one another and celebrate what makes us all unique.
A heartfelt thank you to Ms Stock for her wonderful organisation and for providing our students with such a rich and inclusive experience. Your efforts are deeply appreciated!
COMMUNITY SAFETY DAY
Community Safety Day Recount – A Wonderful Success!
What a fantastic afternoon we had on Wednesday, April 30th, as Sherbourne Primary School hosted its very first Community Safety Day! The event was a huge success, with a strong sense of community spirit and a shared goal of helping our students and visiting kindergartens learn more about staying safe.
We welcomed an incredible range of services and organisations, each of whom generously gave their time and expertise to run interactive, engaging 15-minute sessions for our students. The feedback from staff, students, and visiting kindergartens was overwhelmingly positive.
A big thank you to the following groups for attending and contributing to such a valuable afternoon:
Fire Rescue Victoria – Raising awareness of fire safety and the vital role of firefighters (thank you to Owen Butler).
Victoria Police – Discussing how police keep us safe and how to ask for help (thank you to Nicole Kernick).
Water Safety Awareness team – Promoting safe practices in and around water (special thanks to Karen and the Platypus Pond team).
Road Safety & School Crossing Supervisors – Reinforcing safe road behaviour and pedestrian awareness (thank you to Vanessa Johnson).
Eltham Wildcats Basketball Club – Inspiring students to get active and work as a team (thanks to Taya and the Wildcats team).
Bianca Fenn School of Music – Demonstrating how music can build confidence and connection.
We were grateful to provide each group with a designated area onsite, including access to our car park for the FRV truck and space for marquees. The afternoon concluded with a lovely afternoon tea from 3:00–3:30pm, giving staff, students, and service providers a chance to reflect and connect further.
On behalf of the entire Sherbourne Primary School community, thank you for helping make our Community Safety Day such a rich and memorable learning experience. We deeply appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

CROSS COUNTRY
Well done, everyone!
A big congratulations to all the students who gave it their best in today’s Cross Country! Whether you ran, jogged, walked or cheered from the sidelines, you showed fantastic team spirit. A special shoutout to those who supported and encouraged their housemates—your energy and enthusiasm made the day even better!
House point tally from todays efforts were:
Freeman - 25 points
Lewis - 38 points
Perkins - 51 points
🏆Moneghetti - 78 points
IN THE SPOTLIGHT - GRADE 5/6
Our Grade 5/6 students have recently begun a timed repeated reading routine to help improve their reading fluency and comprehension. By reading a short text multiple times, students become more familiar with vocabulary, improve their phrasing and expression, and better understand what they are reading.
This simple but powerful practice supports students in becoming more confident, capable readers and sets them up for success across all areas of learning.
WORKING BEE
A huge thank you to Sue, Donna, Paul, and the Jackson family for their help in cleaning the gym at our recent working bee. Your support makes a big difference in keeping our school facilities in top shape!
I’d also like to acknowledge our amazing mums and students who helped Ebony Killmister sort through all the stored boxes. We were able to keep important resources while also having a much-needed clean-up.
Looking ahead, we’ll aim to hold two working bees this term—one to spread mulch and another to continue improving and cleaning our school grounds. Your support is always appreciated!
Below are some snippets from one of the working bees last term 🤩
SPS ACHIEVEMENTS
SPS Achievements are an opportunity to share fantastic things that your child has been doing outside of school!
If your child has made an outstanding achievement that you would like to share with the school community, please send a photo and a caption to:
Donna - donna.levinson-murray@education.vic.gov.au
It is important to celebrate and recognise such successes with the school community!
We are proud to acknowledge the fantastic efforts of Sofia, who is pursuing selection for the Under 12 Girls School Sport Victoria State Team. Sofia recently participated in the Regional Trials, where over 80 students competed, and she was one of only 20 selected to progress to the next stage. The upcoming Conference Trials will be held on May 20, with just 10 students moving on to the State Trials in June. If successful, Sofia will compete in the state competition held in Ballarat this October. Well done, Sofia – we’re cheering you on!
SCHOOL COUNCIL UPDATE - MARCH
School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) - VALUES
A real highlight was the implementation of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) model. This approach, along with explicit planning and teaching in each classroom, ensures that we are catering to the social and emotional needs of all students.
Reviewing Our School Values – Your Input Matters!
We are currently revisiting our school values to ensure they truly reflect who we are at Sherbourne Primary School and what we stand for. Staff and students have been actively involved in discussions, and we will soon be seeking the support of our families and wider school community to contribute to this important process.
Student Voice & Agency – A Priority Moving Forward
We strongly value Student Voice & Agency and look forward to seeing how our students shape and influence the future of Sherbourne Primary. Their input is essential in creating an environment where they feel heard, supported, and empowered.
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support and commitment to making Sherbourne Primary School a fantastic place for learning, growth, and community connection!
