KEC Role
A Koorie Education Coordinator (KEC) leads each region area in the implementation of the Department of Education’s (DE) Marrung - Aboriginal Education Plan 2016-2026. The KEC can assist with Koorie cultural responsiveness and educational guidance on programs and initiatives across all levels of education. The KEC lead to initiate consistent area-based coordination and support of the KESOs, the multidisciplinary area teams, as well as early years services and schools.
Early years’ service providers, schools, parents and community, can contact the KEC with enquiries. This can be done via a referral. The KEC can arrange for Koorie Engagement Support Officers support across the regions education landscape. KECs and KESOs advise, providing cultural expertise in the implementation of education initiatives, Koorie specific programs and inclusive practices that privilege engagement with the Koorie community and support parent/carer partnerships in education.

KESO Role
KESO’s can be engaged to support Koorie students and their families in their journey through early years, primary and secondary education as seamless as possible. The Koorie Engagement Support Officer (KESO) is a professional role, responsible for facilitating positive engagement and connection between our Koorie students and their families and Early Years centres and schools. KESOs can assist to support relationships adding, where needed, cultural expertise for schools, teachers and services, and brokering educational arrangements for Koorie children and resolution of any issues between families and schools and EY services. KESOs help schools to build their capability to engage with families, local Aboriginal communities, and organisations. The KESO is a point of reference for cultural advice to the schools and EY services. See the below for allocations.
