The Disability Inclusion Reform officially rolls out for Central Highlands in Term 2 2022. Schools and Area staff have been working with the Disability Inclusion Regional Implementation Team (RIT’s) to understand the reform and the many ways it will strengthen the support schools provide for all students so that they may access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers.
DET have produced a video that provides a succinct overview of the reform. The video can be viewed via Disability Inclusion Video.
The RIT are available to support knowledge building in area, schools, and regional teams. Please contact a team member directly or via our email SWVR - Disability Inclusion if you would like to have a RIT member visit your school, have a virtual chat or need further information about these exciting reforms. Key contacts for each school are listed below.
Schools can participate in a Practice Disability Inclusion Profile (DIP) with Australian Healthcare Associates (AHA) to experience first-hand the process required to gain additional funding to support Tier 3 students. Schools contact AHA directly using the following link: -
Disability Inclusion (difs.com.au)- remember to indicate that it is a practice DIP by ticking the box on the first page. A requirement of the practice DIP is that it must be an existing funded PSD student. If you do not have any PSD funded students, please contact your RIT key contact who will support you to observe a profile at a neighbouring school.

This series of interviews were conducted by Troy Gardiner (AP of Ballarat Specialist School), Marnie Cooper (AP of Delacombe Primary School) and Paula Sprague (PLC Manager & IEP lead in the CHA) in October 2022.
The purpose of these interviews was to share the then current practice of Ballarat Specialist School as they began to develop practices and processes for students, their families, and staff as they implemented the Disability Inclusion reforms. The resources in these interviews were in no way held up as exemplars but were provided as support as schools began to make sense of the cultural and procedural practice changes which need to be considered in this important reform.
The interviews were held over several days (and in some cases extreme weather conditions), are filmed without heavy editing and are conversational in manner.
Please do not hesitate to contact Troy Gardiner at troy.gardiner@education.vic.gov.au or Paula Sprague at paula.sprague@education.vic.gov.au for further information or to access any resources described.
