As we all strive to enjoy life in this new paradigm, we are also coming to terms with our changing situations. The current pandemic may bring up a variety of emotions for our students at NRPS. Encourage them to talk about what they are thinking and feeling. It is quite normal for them to be feeling worried and to have questions.

The Learning and Support Team consists of: Mrs Dooley (Relieving Deputy Principal) who oversees who will receive support from the team, Mrs Flannery our Learning and Support Teacher (LaST) who writes and puts in to action programs written specifically to support learning needs, supports students emotionally in a variety of ways and assists Classroom Teachers with behavioural and educational strategies to use in the classroom, and 7 highly experienced Student Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) – Mrs Anderson, Mrs Baker, Mrs Gillard, Mrs Hird, Mrs Laurie, Mrs Littman, Mrs Kim, Mrs Palmero, Mrs Ramlawie and Mrs Rudd.
Mrs Flannery will continue to run the Macqlit for small groups using ZOOM to teach and improve reading skills. She will also be running ZOOM sessions with students who have been identified to attend regularly and receive one-on-one support to complete any unfamiliar content with their home class work.
Another aspect of Mrs Flannery’s role is to touch base regularly with students who are struggling emotionally with the challenges of our new learning environment. She liaises with not only the students using Google Classroom and Seesaw, she will call parents directly to offer her support.
Mrs Flannery will be liaising with classroom teachers regularly to assist them with differentiation in their day to day classroom programming. Before a student is referred to the Learning and Support Team their teacher will differentiate the standard classroom content, if the student is still struggling to complete the work independently they will be referred to Mrs Dooley who will work with the assistance of the senior school executive, Stage Assistant Principal, School Counsellor and Mrs Flannery to establish where to go to next with each individual student.

Free and confidential counselling for children and young people through phone or web chat. Kids Helpline has trained counsellors and can talk to children and young people about their concerns or worries.
The Australian Government parenting website. This site provides information, resources, Apps and links related to parenting. This includes health, wellbeing and mental health information for parents and their children.
The Family Referral Service is a NSW government organisation that can assist families by linking them to support services. These services can include confidential counselling, financial assistance and mental health support services. It is a free service and helps support finding relevant support services for families in NSW.
An Australian Government website for parents and professionals. This site provides resources, webinars and links to help navigate the way ahead through smooth seas or choppy waters.
Parent Line is a free service for parents. Parent Line has trained counsellors and can also provide referrals to other service providers. They provide support and advice on parenting issues such as behaviour, family relationships and communication within families. Parent Line can also provide advice and counselling on specific issues that may be affecting families, such as worry or anxiety related to COVID 19, as well as more general issues that may come up as families spend increased time together.
