Stage 1 has created a program to help students enjoy a successful period of remote learning and that endeavours to provide continuity of learning whilst also maintaining strong ties between the student, their teachers and peers. The daily timetables and relevant supporting resources can be found on this website.
Over the week students will complete a range of literacy and numeracy tasks. Each day there will be reading, writing and maths activities that students MUST complete. During the afternoon students will have the opportunity to complete work from fun activity grids or activities on websites where a link has been provided.
It would be helpful for each student to have the following equipment:
Pencil Case with pencils, scissors, ruler, glue (To use whilst at home and on their at school days)
Paper or workbook
Seesaw, Matific and Reading Eggs installed on an iPad or accessible on a computer
Logins for Seesaw, Matific and Reading Eggs.
It is important that students post their work for their teacher to view in each session throughout the day as teachers are monitoring their learning progress. Teachers will give written or verbal feedback on one piece of work each day. Work needs to be completed well and not rushed.
We aim to log onto Seesaw 2-3 times throughout the day between the hours of 8.50am and 2.50pm to see how our students are progressing. We will also be 'virtually' marking the class roll each day when we see student work get uploaded. If students don't upload work after 2 days, we may need to make a call to families to check in and see how they are going. This is more from a wellbeing stand point just to ensure everything is okay.
Again, there is no expectation that children are working from 8.50am-2.50pm. Remote learning is very different to being in a classroom with other students. Tasks can be completed a lot quicker than during a school day. When tasks are complete there are some additional activities at the end of each day's overview if your child is eager to do more work. Otherwise we highly encourage that children have ample play and rest time too, as their emotional wellbeing is the highest priority in times like these.
Please do not feel the need to complete all the tasks we set each day. Some days will be harder than others and your child may not do any work. That is totally fine. We are incredibly understanding of the extra load remote learning and working from home is placing on parents at this tricky time.
Stage 1 Daily Routine (8:50am - 2:50pm)
9am- Students to check Seesaw for announcements or messages from the teacher.
Read through Daily Timetable.
Go to the activities tab and complete the assigned activities.
Students must upload completed work to Seesaw by clicking add response to the designated activity so that teachers can check work, provide feedback and monitor learning.
Students should enjoy regular breaks ideally away from screens so that they can also have some play time.
Communication
We ask that students ask their teachers for help earlier, rather than later. Teachers are eager to ensure that students are confident in navigating their way through online learning.
If you wish to speak with your child’s teacher please contact the school office via email with your message northrocks-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au which will be passed onto them.
Work for the new week: Work for the week ahead will be shared on the NRPS Remote Learning Site in the section below each Friday.
Posting work to Seesaw: Although students will have access to the upcoming work in advance, students will not have access to post their work the day before. Seesaw activities will only be activated from 9am for that day. This is so to not overwhelm students with a list of weekly tasks and to direct their attention to the tasks that are relevant that need to be completed first. It will also mean that teachers can prioritise checking and providing feedback on the work of the day.
Online Safety
Keeping students safe in the online learning environment is a key priority for us. We know that most student devices and home networks do not have the same high level of monitoring and filtering that we have at School. Please check the internet security settings in place on your network to ensure your child has a safe and positive online learning experience. Please see the eSafety Commisioner’s website for more information and tips on cyber safety https://www.esafety.gov.au/
YouTube links
If teachers feel that a YouTube link is needed to support a lesson then teachers will use the safe YouTube website to generate a new link. For example an online story or a maths instructional video. This will ensure that students only view the intended teaching video and do not see advertisements or have access to other YouTube clips.
The teachers look forward to seeing all of the fabulous student work that they complete over the coming days and weeks.
Thank you,
