Our Remote Learning Community

During these challenging times North Rocks Public School will continue to provide learning activities that your child can access from home and will communicate with you about their learning. Like many schools across NSW, our teachers are currently delivering learning activities using online tools. North Rocks Public School will continue to deliver one single online unit of work, meaning all children will be accessing the same work each day regardless of whether they are learning from home or are having their onsite learning day.

Our Remote Learning Community has been created as a central place for parents and carers of NRPS students to support families with remote learning. There are also support resources to help you facilitate your child's learning. Each Friday we will endeavor to release the following week's learning schedule.

Setting Up a Learning Environment

Every home is different but it’s important to provide a quiet and comfortable space in which to learn.

Where possible, extended learning should take place in a space your family shares. For example, a lounge room or dining room. These spaces are preferable over a bedroom, where your child can feel isolated and supervision can be more challenging.

It should be a place:

• that can be quiet at times

• that has a strong internet signal, if possible

• where you or another adult is present as you would normally when your child is online, dependent on age

You can provide support for your child when they are learning from home with these helpful tips:

• Establish routines and expectations.

• Define a space for your child to work in.

• Monitor communications from teachers.

• Begin and end each day with a check-in.

• Take an active role in helping your children process their learning.

• Encourage physical activity and/or exercise.

• Check in with your child regularly to help them manage stress.

• Monitor how much time your child is spending online.

• Keep your children social, but setting rules around their social media interactions.

Learning from Home Responsibilities

The following link will help you understand how to help your child learn at home including:

• Your responsibilities – there are things you will need to do to help your child learn from home such as setting routines, finding a quiet space and asking how their learning is progressing.

• Your child’s responsibilities – your child will also need to follow the routines set for them and complete the tasks the teacher assigns doing their best work

• How to plan their day – your school should give you some advice and a guide for what your child should be doing during a day

• Looking after their wellbeing – you will need to make sure they have breaks, drink water and are not getting stressed or anxious

• Communication – it will be important that you talk to your child regularly about their learning. Your child’s teacher and/or the school will communicate with you and tell you how to get in touch with them.

• Using technology and screen time – it will be important that you supervise your child to use technology safely and put limits on the time they spend online.
