Stage 2 has created a program to help students enjoy a successful period of online learning that endeavours to maintain strong ties between the students and their teachers.
The ‘WEEKLY PLANNER” for the upcoming week of learning will be posted on this website the weekend beforehand. Over the week students will complete a range of tasks for:
1. English – Speaking & Listening, Reading & Viewing, Writing & Representing
2. Mathematics – Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry, Statistics & Probability
Some days will be harder than others for you and your child. We totally understand the extra workload that remote learning and working from home is placing on parents and caregivers during this time.
It would be helpful for each student whether ‘On Site at School’ or ‘Working from Home’ to have the following equipment each day, as they will need these materials/essentials to complete the online learning lessons:
pencil case with pencils (including coloured), eraser, ruler, scissors & glue (optional)
blank and/or lined paper or an exercise book
a book to read
any username/passwords, e.g. Reading Eggs/Express, Matific
This term, students will require Matific, Smiling Mind, Reading Eggs/Express, Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Slides and Zoom apps installed on their iPad or accessible on their computer.
It is our aim for stage 2 teachers to provide written feedback on one task per day. Work is still expected to be completed to a high standard (detailed – if required & quality presentation). It is important that students 'Submit'/’Turn In’ their work for their teacher to view and monitor their learning progress.
Daily Routine (8:50am - 2:50pm)
From 8:45 am: Check their class Google Classroom for announcements or messages
Complete ‘Daily Attendance’ question on Google Classroom
Read through the ‘Daily Plan’ on Google Classroom
Complete daily ‘MUST DO’ tasks and once these are completed, they may start the ‘CAN DO’ tasks
Upload completed work to Google Classroom, as directed by the classroom teacher
Enjoy two sessions away from work each day - ideally away from screens: exercise and nourishment
Check through your work from the ‘Daily Plan’ to finalise and 'Submit/Turn In' for end of each learning day
2:45 pm – Complete ‘Afternoon Check Out’ question on Google Classroom
2.50 pm – School is finished – Have a break…
Zoom Meetings
Students will meet with their class and teacher 1-2 times a week for a “Connect and Reflect session” via Zoom. However, before students can take part in these meetings they are required to carefully read the agreements (Zoom & Online Learning) and post back to their teacher, recognition that they agree (it may be a slightly different way for each class), before they can be admitted into the ‘ZOOM classroom’. These agreements, as well as an ‘Instruction Guide’ have been posted as attachments via Google Classroom. A different link and password for each meeting will be shared via Google Classroom prior to the meeting. It is encouraged that students attend these meetings, so they have the opportunity to connect with their teacher and classmates.
Communication
We ask that students ask their teachers for help earlier, rather than later. Teachers are eager to ensure that students are confident navigating their way through online learning. If you wish to speak with your child’s teacher please contact the school office via email with your message northrocks-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au which will be passed on to them.
Online Safety
Keeping students safe in the online learning environment is a key priority for us. We know that most student devices and home networks do not have the same high level of monitoring and filtering that we have at school. Please check the internet security settings in place on your network to ensure your child has a safe and positive online learning experience. Please see the eSafety Commissioner’s website for more information and tips on cyber safety https://www.esafety.gov.au/
YouTube links
If teachers feel that a You Tube link is needed to support a lesson, for example an online story or a mathematical instructional video they will use the safe You Tube website to generate a new link. This will ensure that students only view the intended teaching video and do not see advertisements or have access to other clips.
We all look forward to seeing the amazing work that our students complete over the coming weeks.
Thank you,
Stage 2 team
