Opens Football (Puma Cup)

Our Opens Football team, led by their inspirational coach Mr. Ng, have shown they are a force to be reckoned with as they swept through four teams to be crowned Sydney East Knockout champions, and progress to the CHS State Championships, also known as the CHS Puma Cup. This resulted in an away game in the cold and drizzle of Goulburn against Mulwaree High School. Despite the early leave time and two-hour travel time, our boys showed no effects of the travel as they easily ran out 5-1 winners on the day in front of a healthy local crowd.

Speaking directly after the game, coach Mr. Ng gleamed proudly “Credit to the boys against Mulwaree, the boys dug deep after a few early injuries to a couple of key players. A huge shoutout to the boys who were called up late to the squad and performed admirably in the cold and windy conditions”.

The Opens team have now progressed to the quarter finals of the CHS Puma Cup, where a local derby against the fancied Randwick Boys ensures to bring plenty of entertainment and hopefully a passage through to the semi-finals at the Home of Football NSW Valentines Sports Park.

Under 16's Boys Futsal Team

On the 28th of July, the Under 16's Boys Futsal Team competed in the State Championships. The boys were placed in a tough pool with Keira High School, Cherrybrook Technology High School, Canobolas Public School and Moriah College. They won a tough battle against Keira, before losing to Cherrybrook and then smashing Canobolas. The last game against Moriah was the highlight of the day, as it was a close game throughout with the lead changing several times. Unfortunately, we lost in the last 10 seconds of the match, and Moriah went on to do well in the finals.

The boys were all excellently behaved and showed great sportsmanship throughout the day. They came together as a group and worked on succeeding as a team. Thank you Mr Grose for coaching and Ms Kohilas for driving the team in the school bus!

Grade and Integrated Sport

Year 8 will continue participating in Grade Sport during Term 3. Unfortunately, the weather has not been too kind the first two weeks of term, and students have been unable to play as of yet. Nonetheless, we thank all the teachers who are involved as coaches, as well as Mr. Clarke for organising Grade Sport. We also wish the best of luck to all students involved in Soccer again this term.

All other Year 8 students during Wednesday Sport, as well as Year 7, 9 and 10 students on their designated Monday Sports Sessions will continue to participate in Integrated Sport at school. This term, the sport of choice (weather permitting) is AFL- a sport which requires a number of skills and movement and a sport our students are sure to enjoy!
