Trial Focus

Term 4 2020: The Sackville Street team started with asking their trial teachers to engage with the learning goals, assessments and internal pages in Linc-Ed Hero. Upon reflecting on the demands of the end of year on their trial staff, the team decided on refining their focus to ensure that the workload was manageable.

Term 1 2021: Sackville Street Public School chose to focus on:

  • Tracking & monitoring learning goals for Grammar in Stage 2.

  • Tracking & monitoring learning goals for Phonic Knowledge & Word Recognition and Phonological Awareness in K-2.

During the first mentoring/coaching session with the i See Learning Project Facilitator, staff were:

  • Assessing student achievement to determine current learning goals.

  • Developing PDP goals on visible learning pedagogy, student reflection practices & student agency.

  • Utilising differentiated group goals in Hero to guide explicit teaching.

  • Exploring the possibilities for using Hero for Aboriginal Education to facilitate the PLP process and promote student reflective practices and agency over their cultural goals.

  • Discussing how ECT mentors could utilise Hero to support staff understanding of the Literacy Progressions, what success looks like and differentiation.

Term 2 2021:

During the second mentoring/coaching session with the i See Learning Project Facilitator, staff were:

  • Reviewing assessments and assessment practices to drive learning goal allocation.

  • Determining ability based groups and allocating learning goals to drive differentiated teaching.

  • Strategically planning the use of Hero as a resource to enhance student engagement with learning.

  • Identifying how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can increase their engagement and agency with their cultural goals by collecting evidence in Hero.

Later in the trial Sackville Street Public School will explore:

  • Monitoring goals & success of Aboriginal students.

  • Posting to the Behaviour page.

  • Completing assessments for Running Records.

Professional Learning for Staff

2020: During initial training days, trial staff utilised their Spirals of Inquiry time to engage with the professional learning. Ongoing support was provided as required through this time dedicated to reflective practice.

2021: Additional staff were given the opportunity to engage with Hero, including the Stage 2 team that were provided with initial training by the facilitator in a Spirals of Inquiry session. Mentoring/coaching from the facilitator supported the 2020 trial teachers with exploring how they can use ability-based groupings in Hero to differentiate instruction and make learning goals visible to students.
