Trial Focus

Term 4 2020: Oxley Vale Public School chose for their trial staff to engage with the learning goals feature of the software. They chose to focus on Creating Texts and staff had extensive knowledge of the Literacy Progressions content. Trial teachers explored the best way to embed learning goals in Linc-Ed Hero into their teaching in preparation for 2021. They were also encouraged to empower small groups of students to engage with the software to post evidence of learning, tag current learning goals and self-allocate goals, with teacher support.

Term 1 2021: Oxley Vale Public School chose to focus on:

  • Tracking & monitoring learning goals for Creating Texts, Spelling, Number & Place Value, Additive Strategies and Multiplicative Strategies.

During the first mentoring/coaching session with the i See Learning Project Facilitator, staff were:

    • Empowering Year 6 students to self-allocate learning goals based on specific & detailed feedback from their teacher. They then posted how they were going to be successful.

    • Working with a small group of Year 3 students to self-allocate learning goals based on evidence and a self-assessed and teacher-assessed rubric that they posted.

    • Working with a small group of Year 2 students to self-allocate a group learning goal based on a whole class learning intention & posting evidence.

    • Working with staff to explore the features of Hero and how it will enhance reflective practices, visible learning, intervention groups, student agency and explicit and differentiated teaching.

Term 2 2021:

During the second mentoring/coaching session with the i See Learning Project Facilitator, staff were:

  • The allocation of challenging group learning goals aligned with stage focus areas & student needs.

  • Exploration of how to embed learning goals and student reflective practices in existing program structures.

  • Determining ability based groups and allocating learning goals to drive differentiated teaching.

  • Exploring how Hero could enhance monitoring of Covid intervention groups and sporting events.

In the future of the trial at Oxley Vale Public School, they will explore:

  • Posting to the Learning Support page.

  • Completing assessments for PAT Mathematics, Running Records, SENA 1-4 & the South Australian Spelling Test.

Professional Learning for Staff

2020: During initial training days, trial staff were given time off-class in small groups to engage remotely with the facilitator. Ongoing support was continued during time with Instructional Leaders dedicated to reflective practice.

2021: All teaching staff were given the opportunity to trial Hero so the software could be used as a catalyst for reflective practice & data conversations. After initial training by the facilitator & in-school coordinators, ongoing support was provided by in-school coordinators through Question Data Analysis Implications (QDAI) sessions twice a term with stage teams, as well as regular data conversations.
