Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum number of students required for a subject to run?

  • Our subject selections are based on student choice each year rather than minimum numbers.

  • These subject choices are considered as to the best fit on the timetable, with the objective to run the best combination of subjects that provides the majority of our students with their priority choices.

  • Some subjects such as Dance and Drama can run with fewer students than a standard class size.

Do students need to have backup subjects in case some subjects don't run this year?

  • It is uncommon that we are not able to provide students with a pattern of study based on their primary and reserve selections.

  • However, it is worthwhile knowing which subjects you may also be interested in studying. In the event we can't provide a student with one of their three reserve choices, we will speak with them about possible options.

Do any subjects require specialist equipment, such as a camera for Photographic and Digital Media?

  • The school will provide access to equipment and resources.

  • Some students like to use their own equipment and that is fine too.

How many subjects do I need to select in Year 9?

  • Students must select three primary subject choices and three reserve choices.

  • It is important that students select the subjects they wish to study in order of their preference to ensure their vote clearly contributes towards those subjects.

Can I study a Stage 6 subject such as Biology in Year 9 and 10?

  • Acceleration into Stage 6 is offered within the Talented Technology Program to study a Technology based elective at a Year 11 level in Year 9, as well as in Mathematics in Year 10 for gifted Mathematics students to accelerate into the Mathematics Advanced course.

  • Outside of this, students must select an elective subject appropriate for their stage level.
