Child Studies

Child Studies aims to develop knowledge, skills and strategies in the area of growth and development of young children. Students will develop strategies that will enable them to provide safe and nurturing care for young babies and children. Students will investigate play and its role in the growth and development of children; and develop an understanding of how a range of external factors support the wellbeing of children. Apart from regular class activities, students will also participate in field trips and have the opportunity to work with children from birth to school age.

Child Studies can lead to future careers in preschool teaching, teacher’s aide, kindergarten teaching, nursing, child services, work in the children’s services industry, children’s literature and children with special needs.

The course offers initial learning experiences that can create an interest for further post-school study at TAFE, university or vocational training in the context of the workplace.
