Drama

  • This course is offered as a 200 hour elective.

  • This course is offered as a 100 hour elective.

In Drama students learn by doing. The course aims to maximize their dramatic abilities and enjoyment of drama and theatre through making, performing and appreciating dramatic and theatrical works.

Students work individually or in groups. Students need not have any previous drama experience to join this course but they are expected to participate in performances both in class and for wider audiences. They will be required to attend theatre productions and workshops, which will involve some cost to the student.


Objectives of the course are:

The content of Drama involves the study of:

  • Elements of drama – developing role and character, using dramatic
    symbols, sound, movement, atmosphere and relating to an audience, and

  • Dramatic contexts – playbuilding, improvisation, video drama, scripted
    drama, comedy and others,

all through the practice of making, performing and appreciating drama.

Through the study of Drama students learn to:

  • communicate with increased skill and confidence, both verbally and
    non-verbally

  • use voice and movement effectively

  • work co-operatively and creatively in group situations

  • write critically about drama and theatre

  • reflect on and evaluate their own creative work.
