Contextualising 'Sarabande'
Overview
'Sarabande' by Jiří Kylián, is choreographed for six male dancers and is often seen as a counterpart to his work 'Falling Angels'. It depicts the ideas of masculinity in contemporary society. Males are shown as vulnerable, yet they hide behind self-constraint and a sometimes aggressive facade. The Baroque dresses floating above the stage appear to give birth to the men and then hover somewhat menacingly over them as they explore what it means to be a man.
