Digital Literacy Elements Diagram
How does the current policy and the digital literacy elements from the Australian Curriculum help prepare your students for living and working in society today?
Description:
The ideas I have found to complete this diagram are based of learning activities I have done in my practicums and when I was a student at school. Each idea is based on the digital literacy elements and sub-elements. These ideas allow students to gain knowledge and skills to manage, communicate and investigate information and data. Digital literacies also allow students to think critically by using ICT resources (ACARA, 2023) which all four of these ideas achieve.
As ICT has become more reliable in classroom education, tools such as seen in this diagram are being used more frequently (Thomson, 2015). This is due to ICT being embedded into the Australian curriculum as a general capability as it is suitable for 21st century society. Tools such as these four provides opportunities for students and teachers to build of past developments and prepare for the future (Newhouse, 2013).
Canva allows students to present their information in a poster form. Canva makes it easier for students as they do not need to draw the poster and instead create it on the computer. Google Docs allows students to present their findings onto a document which saves automatically then they post it to Google Classroom for the teacher to mark it and give feedback. Social media tools such as Facebook and present information for students and tools such as this also allows students to cooperate with each other during group learning tasks.
How does the current policy and the digital literacy elements from the Australian Curriculum help your prepare your students for living and working in society today?
In today's living and working society, students will need to understand how to use digital technology as the growth there is a rise in the use in digital technologies. Sue Thomson's reading backs this up as she explains the rise in digital technology. She mentions that in the year 2000, 91% of students had access to a computer while in 2013, it rose to 99% and I believe that it has risen since 2013 due to the 21st century society needs (2015). This means that digital technology is used required in today's living and working society.
In today's Australian Curriculum, the aim is to suit the needs in the 21st century society such as the key roles of digital technologies in living and working. Digital technologies links in with the ICT general capability as its purpose is to develop technological capabilities. Digital literacies are seen as a person's ability to research, evaluate and communicate information and solve problems by using an ICT resource (Newhouse, 2013). This use of digital technologies is seen as in the digital literacy elements, which is also a part of the Australian Curriculum. Student's developing these skills during their time in school will put them in good stead when it comes to their careers after school such as going to university, TAFE or getting a job. Nearly all of these require an understanding of the digital technology elements.
