KAHOOT Lesson Plan
'Lesson 7' in the second reading states: "ICT cannot be used all the time, in all situations." When do you think you should use technology in your own classroom?
KAHOOT is used to 'acquire and collect data' in the Investigating element of the Digital Literacy Framework (ACARA, 2023). This is because KAHOOT is used as a form of assessment as it quizzes students on their knowledge about a particular topic. Students can analyse and collect from KAHOOT by seeing where they are ranked in the class based off their efforts in the quiz as well as what areas of a topic they need to do more study on. In this lesson, KAHOOT is used as a form of formative assessment so they can see what they know and need work on. I decided to use KAHOOT as my AI tool as it is a engaging, competitive activity where students play against each other answering questions about a topic. This competitive aspect to this digital technology tool is effective to student motivation as students do not look to there peers (Rajabpour, 2021). So overall, KAHOOT is an effective AI tool as it promotes learning in an assessment type structure.
I agree with this statement to a degree as you can you use ICT in every lesson in ways of PowerPoint presentations to guide teaching however, ICT may not be appropriate in every lesson depending on the lesson (Sander & George, 2017). Even though the curriculum is promoting the use of ICT for educational purposes, personally, I would not use ICT every lesson because of this reason and also because the impact and benefits of ICT would not be what it is. I would use technology when I believe students are getting bored with the content so that the use of ICT will be used to promote engagement and motivation into learning. This will be in the form of KAHOOT's, research task or getting students to create something such as a poster on Canva for examples. The goal of this to create a change into just teacher direct learning as students can take intuitive in their own learning by using their own knowledge to help with completing these tasks.
However, I also know that some students may need to use ICT every lesson for a variety of reasons depending on a student's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). An IEP is "a written statement that describes the adjustments, goals and strategies to meet a student's individual educational needs so they can reach their full potential" (Victoria, 2023). This written statement main goal is to help the student meet their educational need. Some students may have an IEP may have that they need technology to assist them in their learning. Examples of how this can be done by the student typing down notes instead of writing in their books or if they are a visual learner. Either way a student needs to use ICT for educational purposes based of their IEP, I will respect that and act accordingly.Â
