Based on current educational research, Anzac Park Public School has established the iPad to be the learning tool that will be used in the APPS BYOD program.
Acceptable devices are current or recent models of the:
iPad - this is the most frequently purchased model by our students, and is recommended by the school.
iPad Air
iPad Pro
Please note the device has to have at least 64GB and a screen size of at least 10.2 inches (no iPad minis).
These devices are recommended by the NSW Department of Education as they are able to access the school Wi-Fi and can be purchased from a range of suppliers. It is expected that devices equipped with 4G will have their SIM cards removed or disabled during school hours to ensure that all devices are using the Department of Education’s software security mechanisms.
Cover Anzac Park Public School suggests that when purchasing an iPad, families select a sturdy case to assist in protecting the iPad from damage. The school also recommends that families consider buying a case with an inbuilt keyboard.
Headphones with Microphone Students are required to have iPad-compatible headphones equipped with a microphone for recording purposes. Headphones are preferred for durability and hygiene; however, earphones may be used if they have a microphone.
Screen Protector Students are required to have a screen protector on their iPad to ensure extra safety when using the device at school.
At Anzac Park Public School, we are committed to our obligations as a public education institution to deliver the same learning opportunities to all our students. Families who have financial concerns regarding the BYOD program are invited to apply to the principal to lease an iPad from the school with a small yearly fee ($150). This will involve completing a BYOD leasing form which can be collected from the school office. School-owned iPads are permitted to be taken home with the student. If payment for leasing a device cannot be made, parents or caregivers are encouraged to seek financial assistance from the school principal.
Labelled Devices
Students should clearly label their device for identification purposes (both full name and class) in a way that is not easily removed. Some families may want to have the name engraved, and should be aware of implications for insurance. All additional equipment (headphones and iPad cover) should also be clearly labelled.
Technical Support
As part of the BYOD program students’ policy agreement, all students must ensure their iPad has the latest approved IOS operating system installed on the device and that ‘Core Learning Apps’ are regularly updated. While some technical support can be provided by the school, setting up BYOD iPads is the responsibility of families.
Damaged Devices
If a device is damaged during class activities, a BYOD incident report is to be completed by the student and signed by the teacher. The principal will sight the report and the school will contact the parents to notify them of the damage. Families will be responsible for repairing any damage to their child’s devices.
Students bring their devices onto the school site at their own risk. It is the responsibility of the student to care for the iPad during travel to and from school and follow school procedures once at school. If damage was to occur due to school negligence, the school will incur the cost of repairing damage to a device. Please note, this relies on the device being properly protected with a sturdy cover and screen protector. The school will only remunerate up to the cost of a standard model iPad with parents incurring the cost of the difference.
The school takes no responsibility for lost or damaged devices. Insurance is the responsibility of parents/caregivers. In cases of malicious damage or theft of another student’s device, existing school processes for damage to school or another student’s property apply. If deemed that the device was damaged on purpose or proven that the device was stolen, then the family of the student who stole or damaged the device will be asked to replace it.
Charging Devices
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their device is charged and ready to use during learning experiences.
