Talented Writer's Group

About

The Talented Writers’ Group is an opportunity for students who display a gift or particular interest in writing to participate in small-group workshops and enter their writing into competitions. The students who attend the Talented Writers’ Group are provided with opportunities to share their writing and gain feedback from the teacher and other group members. The students are a like-minded group who enjoy the creative process of writing and love to discuss their ideas.

Selection Process

The Talented Writers’ Group is open to students in years 4 - 6 at the recommendation of their teacher. Students may also request to join the group if they have a love of writing and willingly work on writing activities at home.

What does the program look like?

The Talented Writers’ Group is held every Tuesday at lunchtime. Students require an iPad, however if they do not have access to an iPad, a school laptop will be available. During the session, students share their work, give each other feedback, work one-to-one with the teacher to build their repertoire of writing skills, participate in writing workshops, and prepare pieces of writing for competitions.

Benefits of the program

The Talented Writers’ Group enables students who have a love of writing to gain extra support in the writing process and have their work viewed by a ‘critical friend’ to build their skills. They are presented with the opportunity to enter competitions with the possibility of having their work published in books or on websites.
