Required Industry Certifications (Access Guidance Documents above for Additional Criteria)
This graphic compares the key differences between Adjunct Certification and Provisional Certification for occupation-based teachers in Kentucky. Both certifications require four years of relevant work experience, but Provisional Certification includes additional requirements such as participation in the New Teacher Institute (NTI) and earning an associate degree within six years. While both certifications require annual renewal, Provisional Certification transitions to a five-year professional certification upon meeting all requirements. This comparison helps clarify the pathways for individuals entering the teaching profession through occupation-based routes.
If you choose adjunct certification while not yet working full-time as an instructor, you'll be required to complete the NTI program once you transition to provisional certification. Although this requirement applies retroactively, having access to this information early—during years 1 and 2—is far more relevant and helpful for planning and compliance.
Provisional certification IS required for full time CTE LPS instructors!
