Welcome Back, LPS Teachers! Wishing you a great 25-26 School Year!
Career Pathways and Program of Studies
Career Pathways are outlined in the Program of Studies, a key guidance document that schools use to select four (or more) courses for each Career Pathway offered. While this document is valuable for course planning, the LPS Courses Document and the Academic and Employability Standards documents should drive your classroom instruction for each course to ensure alignment with pathway outcomes and industry needs.
The best practice is to prioritize courses from the top half of the suggested list to maintain rigor and relevance.
To support quality instruction and improve student academic and technical achievement, educators should regularly reference essential CTE resources, including:

These documents are updated annually. Please ensure you are reviewing the current school year to access the most up-to-date information.
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and the Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) do not mandate specific curricula for course content. Instead, we require that the standards be taught, allowing schools and districts the autonomy to select instructional materials that best meet their students' needs while ensuring alignment with those standards.
Academic and Employability Standards apply to ALL CTE Pathways and courses and should be integrated across the pathway sequence. Often many are repeated throughout the years.

The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) is the leading national organization dedicated to advancing Career and Technical Education (CTE) through advocacy, professional development, and resources for educators and stakeholders. As the national counterpart to KACTE in Kentucky, ACTE provides guidance and support, including facilitating the annual KACTE Summer Conference, a premier professional development event for CTE educators across the state.
High-quality CTE has become a national catchphrase in use by policymakers, practitioners, and education and workforce development stakeholders. But what is high-quality CTE? How should this term be defined, and can it be used to evaluate programs, determine areas for targeted improvements and recognize successful elements that should be scaled?
To bring clarity to this conversation and help CTE educators and administrators develop and improve the quality of their CTE programs, ACTE has created an evidence-based framework defining high-quality CTE across 12 elements: The ACTE Quality CTE Program of Study Framework® (2018 version) and a companion self-evaluation instrument, available in print and online.
PRO-TIP!! The ACTE Quality CTE Program of Study Framework is a great place to self-assess your program, inform your program goals and help you with the education language that you can directly input into your district's annual evaluation plan.
