Workshop FINLAND “Kitee”

HUMAN RIGHTS were included quite many workshops during the week and we planned pedagogical activities and cooperated with several different associations and organizations, such as Red Cross, University of Eastern Finland, a local hunting association and Evangelical folk high school. We planned lessons with associations of multicultural status and immigrants to raise students' awareness of the topic. Students' and teachers’ knowledge about the reasons of immigration and refugee status were increased. We exchange good practices within the partnership. The teachers also started to work with one of our main products, a research about the students' participation and citizenship in European schools. Local students were integrated to the project by organizing a short seminar about our project – we told about the aims of the project and what we do in Kitee upper secondary school. The local students will be further integrated to the project after the meeting - certain student groups will write and illustrate stories about the human rights in each partner schools. Also all the participants (both teachers and students) will create presentations on the workshop FINLAND.

Teachers learned new ways how to cooperate with associations and other agents outside of school. They also learned about local environmental problems in each country and possible solutions and youth’s role in conflict resolution. Especially in the activities Red Cross and Evangelical folk high school, teachers knowledge of international migration (e.g. reasons for migration – economic reasons c, refugee, asylum, family reunification) and the human rights (situation in different countries) increased, which will develop teachers’ professional skills. In addition, teaches exchanged the good practices in terms of teaching methods and associational activities. New learning material was created which helps the integration of association and external experts to schools' activities.
