HUNGARY

Nyíracsád is situated in the eastern part of Hungary. Our village has got about 4000 inhabitants. Our old traditions are in close connection with religion and faith. Our school's motto is: 'The kingdom of God is in the midst of you.' (Luke 17, 21) We have got only one primary school. There are about 310 students and 35 teachers. We offer primary education for pupils. We have got English groups and special Art and Music lessons for talented pupils. We try to help our students with cultural and social disadvantages to be successful. It is important for us to have a live connection between the students' family, our school and the village. This is based on mutual respect and helpfulness. Besides religious associations our school has contacts with other organizations of students, adults and the ones that are in connection with our village. Our motivation to join the project is that we want to involve local associations in our work to develop the quality of our teaching. Through this way we want to increase students' school motivation. We hope that in this way we can improve learning results in our school. As there are a growing number of gipsy students in our school we have some experiences of integrating different ethnic groups. We would like to share our experiences and show how it works in our school curriculum. As there are some organizations around us that help in our work, we could fasten our cooperation and share our experiences with our partners. These organizations help us prepare students for civic life that is a difficult task among gypsies. The key person in this project is the coordinator in the school, Gabriella Illés. But there is a very good and experienced team from previous programs. In case Gabriella leaves the school either Agnes Demeter or Timea Koleszar can take over her role. Our school has been involved in international school projects since 2005. We find it crucial for the students, parents and teachers because it is the only way in this disadvantaged region to be in contact with Europe. These projects contributed to our school's developing and each cooperation became relevant part of our local curriculum. We were partners in each project. This project is very important for us because by the help of it we have the possibility to involve local organizations in it. Other NGOs can also be part of our cooperation and can actively contribute to further developing of our curriculum.
