🔍 These are the murga and the winning troup of this year.
I talked about my city's carnival, his culture, what we do these days and how many days there are to celebrate.
The Badajoz Carnival is an international party of touristic interest that is celebrated for five days.
The first day is made by the kids. They dress up with some funny costumes and they parade through the streets with a lot of people.
The second day there is the Murga's contest which is about the contests where each murga sings some silly songs with their amazing costumes. The show is celebrated on friday in the center streets of the city and if you can't go to the street, you can watch it on your television.
Saturday is the day for the teenagers who hang out with their friends with their costumes too.
And the carnival ends with the day of the sardine that is celebrated in the San Roque neighborhood with some troupes who dance with some little kids with their carnival dresses. There, the families get together in their houses or in some restaurants to eat roast sardines with omelet or some fries.
🔍 Bárbara of Braganza born in 1711, she was a Portuguese princess. She later married Ferdinand VI and became queen consort of Spain.
The interest in turning the Spanish Infanta into the future Queen of Portugal, through marriage to Barbara's brother, led to the decision to arrange a double marriage.
🔍 In 1729, Ferdinand VI married Barbara de Braganza in the Cathedral of Badajoz. The marriage turned out to be very close and happy, full of love. Barbara's influence was very powerful during the reign. Diplomatic ties between Spain and Portugal became very close.
🔍 Her chronic asthma, along with other illnesses, led to her death in 1758. As they had no children, Barbara could not be buried with the rest of the royal family, Ferdinand built another tomb for both of them because he did not want to be separated from his wife.
🔍 Barbara of Braganza High School, whose first director was Alfonso Bullón, an historian. He was aware of the need to strengthen the ties between Extremadura and Portugal. As a result, he decided to name the high school after the Portuguese princess.
