Our students belonging to 4ºESO F have prepared an interactive map using MapHub which shows the most important towns and stops the Balmis expedition did during its dangerous voyage. They have included images and information about it.
We aimed to develop the main competences:
The linguistic comptence by writing the texts in Spanish and English and presenting them orally in class,
The mathematic competence by designing the map.
The digital competence was developed by looking for the application we have used for making the map (MapHub), letting them work out how to work with it and finally using the computers for finishing the map. They also have spreaded the map using Instagram so it could reach more people.
We developed the competence of learning to learn as well as the competence of entrepeneurship by letting the students work under the leadership of a student chosen by the own group with a minimal help of the instructor while making the map.
Finally, we think the topic chosen, a philantropic expedition whose aim was to spread vaccination without a direct link to economic profit, fulfills the social and cultural competences.
We used four sessions of our classes with 4º ESO F, the first one in the classroom deciding how to organise the work in order to do the project and the other three sessions in the computer lab in collaboration with the informatics instructor D. Santiago Velayos.
The group, with 20 students, was divided in smaller groups of two and three students each. Under the coordination of a leader chosen by the group they chose a location linked to the Balmis expedition, they looked for information focusing on how that location was important to the development of the expedition. Also some of them included images of the place.
Finally the link to the map was released and the students shared it through Instagram.
