Justification:
The project that we present was born within the Bilingual Section of our school as a result of an analysis of the evolution of it in the last courses, from which we deduce the need to go a step further in the cohesion between linguistic and non-linguistic disciplines and, between the among themselves, through a working seminar in which to develop a multidisciplinary PBL (Project based learning) proposed form the NLS (Non-linguistic subject), that has a greater workload in the section: "Social Sciencies".
Topic: The philanthopic vaccination expedition of Dr. Balmis against smallpox.
It is linked with Block 1 of contents of 4th ESO (S5) and more specifically with the learning of the characteristics of the Enlightenment period and its implications in some monarchies. It also offers a clear link with other subjects of the curriculum, such as Biology, philosophy and with the present. So, we believe that it will be motivating for the students, taking part in a multicultural contextual learning ( European School of Brussels as our partner) .
In addition to these two areas, we will have the collaboration of teachers and students of Professional Training Upper Course in Image and Sound provided by our school, that has been incorporated this scholar year to the Bilingual Section.
On the other hand, apart from promoting the greatest link between linguistic and non-linguistic subjects, it is intended to promote the key competences and cross-cutting elements of the Extremadura curriculum established in Decree 98/2016, of July5th:
Reading comprehension: Through the reading of some chapter of the book; "A flor de piel" by Javier Moro. Also, the reading of " El mar recordará nuestros nombres", comic by Javier de Isusi, and newspaper articles referring to the current Covid 19 pandemic.
Written and especially, oral expression in English and Spanish, through activities such as recording podcasts, dramatized readings or debates.
The use of ICTs: through the creation of a website, portfolios in which each group evidences their progress in the different tasks, using different apps such as Canva or different digital platforms such as google classroom.
The development of the entrepreneurial spirit when making decisions and obtaining conclusions, showing respet for colleagues when dividing tasks into groups.
Civic competence, showing respect for different opinions and cultures.
Gender equality; highlighting the female role that Isabel Zendal had in this expeditin, having been considered by the WHO as the first nurse in history on a humanitarian mission.
Health education; rainsing awareness among students of the role of vaccines in the eradicatin of contagious diseases and in the course of the current pandemic. To this end, rearch activities, exposure to coleeagues, debates and interviews will bi carried out. To this end, research activities, exposure to colleagues, debates and interviews to health professionals will be carried out.
Regarding key competences, we will work;
Language and bilingual competence.
Mathematical competence through chronological axes, graphs and maps; and basic competence in science and technology with the creation of digital contents.
Competence in learning to learn; using historical and scientific inquiry.
Social and civic competences; given the philanthopic and humanitarian nature of the expedition.
Consciousness and cultural expressions; analyzing the ideological principles of the Enlightenment period that inspire the expedition.
In short, we intend to implement in the Bilingual Section a way of working which we have already been doing in previous years although in a more modest way, and that has been seen shown to be motivating and satisfactory for the entire school community.
On the other hand, we aim to develop innovative bilingual curricular materials that can be used in the future.
Objectives and productions:
Conceive scientific knowledge as an integrated knowledge, which is structured in different disciplines, as well as know and apply the methods to identify problems in the various fields of knowledge and experience.
Understand and express themselves in English and Spanish appropriately to became our students, in Extremadura and Brussels, as European citizens to deal with multicultural contexts.
To value the role of women in this expedition that contrated with the female role in the society of that time.
To assess the impact of scientific knowledge, especially vaccines, on the progress of humanity and its application in dayly life.
Regarding the productions, we can point out the creation of a website with curricular materials and in which the different learning activities carried out by the students of the different groups are going to be collected. Some of the proposals are: podcasts, story-telling maps, escape-rooms, presentations and a dramatized reading.

Methodology and work procedure:
According to the Decree 98/2016, of 5 July, which establishes the ESO curriculum in Extremadura, in addition to Order ECD/65/2015, the methodology will take into account the context and will be eminently active and participatory. It will promote autonomous and cooperative learning, through working groups with students with different characteristics and in which the teacher acts as a facilitator of the educational process. Besides, we promote a significative learning based on context learning situations.
Monitoring and evaluation system of the work to be developed:
Teacher ś meetings will be held on a bi-weekly basis and in sessions of 2 hours.
At the end, a follow-up control of the activities will be carried out and a questionnaire will be passed to measure the degree of satisfaction of the students.
