Where are they now?
From left to right: Agrima, Nicole, Daniella, Nadia, Sofia, Arvid, Ruth
Daniella:
I’m currently studying a bachelors in Global Law at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. You’re welcome to ask if you have any questions or want more information.
I believe that my time at the IB and Hvitfeldtska really helped me gain knowledge and skills that are very helpful at university.
Nicole:
I did get admitted to Imperial, but eventually I chose to stay in Swedenfor other considerations. Now I'm at Karolinska Institute doing biomedicine, which is the only English program they offer.
I would say that IB helped me a lot for my current studies. I have a much better foundation than many of my classmates who haven't done the IB. Especially content from HL chemistry and biology.
If there's any questions, I'm happy to help!!
Ruth:
I’m currently taking a gap year, and working in a fish store. Next year I’m planning to study chemistry at Trinity College Dublin.
Sofia:
I’m currently studying architecture in England at Oxford Brookes University.
Arvid:
I am currently doing my basic military training as a medic. It is the best thing, so fulfilling and challenging both mentally and physically, and it makes you grow so much as a person. I think my experience in the IB programme has been super useful even in this context as it has made me resilient to stress and much more collaborative and creative - showing how the IB learner profile is applicable not only in an academic context but also in the very currently important context of war and peace. Even the course material has come in handy, especially the profound knowledge that I got from the biology course as anatomy and physiology is central in my position as a medic. The psychology course is central too, both in terms of psychological effects of warfare and caring medically for soldiers with PTSD etc, but also for myself to leverage my own psychology to stay resilient and open to new things. Now I am considering a career in the army (though it is a tricky decision to make) as it is a place which has challenged me in every way possible, but also rewarded me more than anything else. All in all, the IB experience is invaluable in every environment, not only the academic, as it shapes curious and open-minded learners and critical explorers of the world.
Nadia:
I am currently studying Tourism and Adventure at Grimslövs Folkhögskola, which is located in a tiny village in the middle of Småland. I live here on the campus and study fully in Swedish (after taking a Swedish Abinitio course in IB). The program lasts one and a half years. Right now my classmates just returned from Tanzania where they experienced what it means to be a Safari guide. Soon we are going to Idre for a study ski trip and later in spring are planning to visit Spain and England to create guiding projects and explore the tourist industry in those countries. Next week I will have my first internship at a real tourist organization (either in Lapland or in Småland). I am very happy to be here because this program is helping me to challenge myself every day both physically and mentally and go out of my comfort zone. With my class, we go on many adventures and are planning on opening our own business in the future with my new friend.
I can also attach the link to my program if anybody will be interested in looking at it: https://www.grimslovsfolkhogskola.se/turism/turism-aventyr/. I remember how tough it was for me to make certain decisions during IB and in general adapt as an immigrant living alone in Sweden so early, so if anybody would be interested in contacting me personally for any more information or questions, I would be happy to help, so you can share my email address with them too.
