Duke Of Edinburgh Award

Duke Of Edinburgh Award

In S3, learners are given the opportunity to complete their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. As learners move into the senior phase, there is the provision for those who have completed Bronze to continue on to the Silver Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has 4 sections to it: Skill, Volunteering, Physical and Expedition.

Undertaking a skill each week sees our young people develop practical and social skills, and nurture personal interests and talents.  The Volunteering section of the award encourages students to give up their time to help others and change things for the better within our community.  An hour a week is dedicated to volunteering in places such as Rainbows, sporting groups, local charities within North Berwick and the surrounding areas. The Physical section of the award gets our young people active and fit, and builds confidence and team work skills.  The final part of the award is completing an expedition.  This is as much about team building and resilience as it is about map reading and navigational skills.  A lot of planning goes into the expeditions, especially the shopping for food to cook on the trangia stoves!
