North Berwick High School

Head Teacher's Welcome

Michelle Moore, Head Teacher

Welcome to the North Berwick High School website. I am delighted to have taken up post as Head Teacher in August 2021 and hope the site gives you a flavour of our school, plus any information you require.

I am very proud of the ethos of NBHS – as I speak to pupils and staff, they are quick to reflect on North Berwick as a happy school, where positive relationships are a priority.  They speak of our values of curiosity, diligence, kindness and belonging which are core to the way we operate within our school community. It is important to me that each young person is valued individually and equally, and that we recognise that all pupils have different needs; we aim to support those needs through the provision of a wide variety of learning experiences for all our pupils. We want our teaching and learning to be the very best it can be, and for our school to be a place of excellence, inclusion and equity.

As I learn more about our school community, I am struck by how many of our pupils lead or participate in groups and committees, share their views and ideas, and steer our school improvement agenda.  It is apt, therefore, that our school motto is ‘Aim Higher’ and I can see on a daily basis how well our pupils put this into practice beyond the classroom, as well as within it.

It is clear that NBHS benefits from close partnership with our parents and with the wider community. We have close links with our cluster primary schools: Aberlady, Athelstaneford, Dirleton, Gullane and Law. We seek out opportunities for parents and carers to be engaged and involved in the work of the school and, in particular, in supporting their children with their learning. Both our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and Parent Council are very active, offering great support to the school.

I look forward to working with you.
