Through our Broad General Education (BGE) course we aim is to promote active participation and enjoyment in physical activity through a broad range of activities.
We aim to create a learning environment that facilitates holistic development, allowing pupils to develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.
We create opportunities for our young people to enhance skills for work, learning and life after school such as: Teamwork, Communication, Problem Solving and Decision Making.
As pupils develop from 1st-4th level we assess practical performance throughout S1 and S3 using the National Benchmarks (See picture to your left).
Each pupil in S1 and S2 will have the opportunity to partake in the following activities: Basketball, Netball, Table Tennis, Rugby, Fitness, Gymnastics, Athletics, Badminton, Softball, Volleyball, Swimming.
Each activity will between a 3-4 week, with designated benchmarks being focused on within all lessons.
In 3rd year to ensure our students remain motivated and engaged, we offer personalisation and choice, allowing them to select the activities they enjoy the most. This approach not only increases their enthusiasm for physical education but also helps them discover and pursue their interests and strengths in various sports and physical activities.
Students will complete seven blocks throughout the year, each focusing on different aspects of physical education. This structured approach ensures a comprehensive learning experience, covering a diverse range of activities and BGE Benchmarks.
Expected Outcomes:
By the end of the course, students will have:

Developed a deeper understanding of health and wellness principles.
Enhanced their personal and social skills, including teamwork, leadership, and communication.
Our 3rd-year PE course is not just about physical activity; it’s about empowering students to develop a well-rounded skill set that will benefit them throughout their lives.
