The main purpose of the Course is to research and analyse factors which underpin and impact on performance, and use this knowledge to develop their own performance or that of others. To do this effectively, learners will engage in research and undertake independent investigative work, and develop skills of analysis, evaluation, and communication.
During the Course, learners will also understand how to develop consistency of performance in challenging environments and become proficient in their ability to analyse and apply strategies and techniques to make appropriate decisions about their personal performance.
The project will allow learners to develop their knowledge of factors impacting on performance and will require them to select an activity and area of performance that requires development. Learners will be given the skills and knowledge to carry out detailed academic research into their chosen topic using journals, the internet and various literature.
The Project has 70 marks out of a total of 100 marks for the course assessment.
The Project will consist of a 5000-word written assignment which will cover the following areas:
Demonstrating independent research and investigation skills
Investigating how factors impact on performance
Understanding and applying approaches to develop performance
Analysing and evaluating the process of performance development including future needs.
The purpose of this component is to assess the pupils’ ability to effectively perform in one physical activity.
The performance is a single event in a challenging, competitive and/or demanding context. This gives pupils an opportunity to demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and understanding:
A repertoire of skills — including complex skills
Control and fluency
Effective decision-making
Using and applying straightforward composition, tactics or role safely and effectively
Conforming to rules, regulations and etiquette
Controlling emotions
Working co-operatively with others
