Welcome to the final term
Welcome to the summer term, which promises to be both fun and very busy. We will be doing the school show High School Musical, and the children are already working with great enthusiasm as rehearsals get underway. This term also brings a very important milestone: the children will be making their First Holy Communion. It is a truly special occasion, and it’s an honour to be preparing for such a meaningful event with them.
Learning
Literacy –
The children have successfully met their targets in using varied sentence starters and conjunctions, so we are now focusing on developing richer vocabulary to help them add depth and detail to their writing. Over the coming weeks, we will also be creating a range of different text types, giving the children plenty of opportunities to apply their new skills with confidence.
In reading, the children continue to read in groups and, in line with our commitment to Reading Schools, we take part in daily Drop Everything and Read sessions, giving the children regular opportunities to enjoy books and develop positive reading habits. The children will also do reading comprehensions to strengthen their evaluative and inferential skills.
Number and maths – This term in P4, we will be completing our work in fractions and moving on to learn more about money and exploring data and analysis. We will also we revising some of the core skills we worked on already this year including addition and subtraction strategies and practicing multiplication and division.
Health and Wellbeing – This term, we will continue to follow our whole‑school programme Building Resilience, supporting the children to develop confidence, coping strategies and emotional awareness. We will also continue exploring the rights of the child and the responsibilities that come with these rights, helping the children understand how they can contribute positively to their school and wider community.
Topic – The children are very much enjoying our topic of natural disasters. In a few weeks, the children with decide what topic they would like to explore for the rest of term.
Snacks and lunch
As you are aware all children in P4 are entitled to a free school meal, if you can please pre-order your child’s lunch at home using ipayimpact.com. You do not need to pay but you can use the system to pre order lunches. If you are not yet set up on ipay, details will be issued shortly from the school office. If you would like your child to have a packed lunch on a Friday this should be ordered on ipay by the Wednesday of that week.
Water bottles
Please send your child to school with a water bottle. Learning is thirsty work. Please try and use a reusable water bottle. This saves money and helps the environment.
Walking challenge
The children will be completing a walking challenge every Monday afternoon – please ensure your child wears comfortable school clothes and trainers to school on Mondays and has a bottle of water and an extra healthy snack.
Names
Can everyone please check that all belongings are named, including packed lunch bags and Tupperware. Many children throughout the school can have the same belongings and these can easily get muddled during lunch and playtime. Please double check that all cardigans, jumpers and coats are labelled.
Thank you for your continued support.
