Primary 2 Class Newsletter – April 2026
It is lovely to see everyone back at Loretto after the Easter break! We have a lovely term ahead of us as we approach the end of the school year and the Summer holidays.
Here are some important routines and information for Primary 2:
Library – Mondays
Every Monday, the class will visit the school library and choose a book to take home. Please ensure this book is returned in your child’s book bag by Friday so that it can be changed the following week.
PE days – Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Please provide a gym bag containing a plain t-shirt, dark shorts, leggings or joggers and gym shoes. All gym items must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Labelling Belongings
Please make sure all belongings (including clothes, shoes, water bottles and lunchboxes) are clearly labelled with your child’s full name.
Book Bags
Each child has been given a Loretto book bag. Please ensure your child brings this to school every day. Book bags will be kept in school on Fridays so that we can prepare reading materials for the following week.
Toys
A reminder that children should not bring toys into school as they often get lost or mixed up with school toys.
Literacy
We will continue our spelling, grammar, handwriting, reading and writing learning to continue to develop our literacy skills and knowledge.
· Reading books will be sent home on Mondays or Tuesdays. Please take time to practise reading together throughout the week, this helps build fluency, understanding and confidence. Please sign in the comments box of your child’s reading record once you have read together and feel free to leave a general comment.
· This term we will be focusing on the story, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. This will be the focus for reading and writing lessons.
· We will be revisiting nouns and introducing adjectives as we explore the descriptive language in the story. With this we will continue to expand our sentence structures
Numeracy and Maths
This term in numeracy and maths we will be working on:
· Grouping and sharing – including introducing the concepts of multiplication and division, doubling and halving, and the 2 times tables.
· Money – including recognising coins and notes up to £10, using coins to buy items up to 10p, and calculating change within 10p.
· Positions – including positional directions and compass points.

We will also be exploring other areas of the curriculum, including looking at:
· We’re Going on a Bear Hunt – exploring scenery, outdoor learning, rhythm and music, drama and art.
· RE – looking at Mary Our Mother, the Annunciation, being unique, and belonging.
