Emilia Dawson (S2):
Our Planet
Pollution, smoke, and unnatural chemicals fill the air.
Animals abused. Trapped in small cages. Crammed in together with not enough space for them. Humans force-feed animals, fattening them up until they can't walk, breeding them until they even have trouble breathing.
So much plastic that animals are eating, which is killing them or dragging them onshore. Some animals are nearing extinction or already extinct. Lost forever. Deforestation, for human benefit, results in many creatures losing their natural homes.
But what would you think if our world could be full, full of life?
Blooming. Blossoming. Thriving.
Trees cover the mountains like a green mossy carpet.
Birds chirping. Animals rustling through the forest floor.
Humans are at peace.
The world is in harmony, living together, bursting with colour.
Animals play, enjoying the sunlight, warming their backs, and having a fun time. While other animals lose their habitats. Their homes are destroyed. Nowhere to go. Plants are dying from not having what they need to survive.
The planet feels like it's warming up, getting hotter like a huge fluffy blanket covering the earth.
Icebergs melt. Sea levels rise. Coral reefs are dying as the sea warms up. The impact on tiny animals that live inside the coral get too stressed that they can not survive.
However, there are some ways that we can help the environment.
Like reducing the amount of one-use plastic.
Using reusable straws. Reusable water bottles. Reusable bags.
Saving energy at home by turning off lights when you're leaving the room. Turning off electronics that are not being used.
Reduce the amount of water used. Simple changes, such as taking shorter showers or fixing leaks.
There are many other ways we can help the environment, but I have only named a few of them.

Write a short story, poem (no more that 1000 words), OR design an informational poster about the future of our planet
Your piece might explore:
A place you know (or imagine) and how it changes in the future
People looking after animals, land, food, or nature
A problem the planet is facing—and how people try to solve it
How communities work together to make things better
Your entry can be:
Set in the near or distant future
Realistic or imaginative
Hopeful, challenging, or surprising
If creating a poster, you can use strong visuals to show what a greener world could look like or to highlight actions that help protect nature. Images can communicate ideas quickly and powerfully.
There are no right or wrong ideas—we want to see your imagination and your vision of a greener future.
Poster to be physical submission on A4 or A3 paper only.
