Colmenar Viejo is a big town in the Community of Madrid located 35km away from this amazing capital and its population was about 49.498 in 2018. This place is full of granite rocks, that is why it was used to construct buildings.
Colmenar Viejo is a big town in the Community of Madrid located 35km away from this amazing capital and its population was about 49.498 in 2018. This place is full of granite rocks, that is why it was used to construct buildings.
In Colmenar we also celebrate different festivals like 'La Maya'. One of the most famous celebrations is 'La vaquilla'. It consists on celebrating the transport of the cows through the town. The animals are made of a frameworck decorated with colourful ribbons and two horns. Someone moves it as if he was the animal while the rest of the group guides it to the main square and then they go back to where they started to make as if they kill the animal.
