Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, SAT replaced the ACT as Kentucky’s statewide college admission exam.

Most colleges & universities in Kentucky still list ACT score requirements, but are slowly transitioning to SAT. Students can still take the ACT on their own if they wish. Click here to find ACT testing centers locally.

ASVAB (Armed Services Aptitude Battery)

The ASVAB is a required exam for students interested in joining any branch of the military. Beyond enlistment, it also helps identify which military jobs (MOS) you are best suited for based on your strengths.

The test covers several key areas:

Math & Science: General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, and Mathematical Knowledge.
English: Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension.
Technical: Electronics Information, Auto and Shop Information, and Mechanical Comprehension.

Requirements & Prep:

Score to Beat: You generally need a minimum AFQT score of 31 to meet basic enlistment eligibility, though requirements can vary slightly by military branch.
Study Resource: Union Test Prep is an excellent site for flash cards, practice questions, and study guides.

SAT/ACT Resources

CollegeBoard: This is the website that issues the SAT. Only practice tests for the SAT are available on this site.

March2Success: This website sponsored by the U.S. Army has ample practice questions and tests. There is also an online course that can aid in your studying. If you are taking the ASVAB, you can find tips here.

Khan Academy: If you love videos, then this resource is for you. As you review certain topics of the SAT/ACT, there is likely a video on Khan Academy as well some practice questions.

ACT Academy: This is a free resource provided by the company that makes the ACT. There are personalized practice tests as well as lessons.

Kentucky Virtual Library: Contains many tutorials and practice tests for the SAT/ACT.
