Animals and their habitats
For the Google Slides to click-through the below directions, click here! (It includes pictures for the steps below.)
- Let’s think!
- A habitat is a natural home for animals.
- In a habitat, animals can find food, water, and shelter.
- Different animals are suited to live in different habitats.
- Some examples of habitats are the ocean, the desert, the forest, and the arctic!
- The Ocean
- Oceans are areas of salty water that cover 70% of the Earth.
- Not all animals can live in the ocean- what animals can you think of that live in the ocean?
- The Desert
- Deserts are very hot and dry. Many animals that live in deserts are nocturnal, only coming out at night when it’s cooler.
- Can you think of animals that might live in this habitat?
- The Forest
- Forests are filled with trees and vegetation.
- Forests follow our seasons, so animals that live here must be able to adapt to the changing seasons.
- Some animals migrate, or move, to escape the cold weather of winter.
- Can you think of animals that live in forests?
- The Arctic
- The arctic is made up of ice floating on the ocean- brrr!
- Most plants cannot survive here, and any animals that live in the arctic must be able to handle extremely cold conditions.
- What animals can you think of that might live in the arctic?
- Watch this fun video about habitats!
- Let’s Play!
- Flip through the next few slides- can you figure out which animal does NOT belong in the different habitats?
