General Music Resources

The Chrome Music Lab is an excellent resource for you to create your own music. There are several different sections to explore, ranging from rhythm and melody to sound waves and instruments. This is your space to become your own composer and see what kind of amazing things you can create. Have fun exploring!

Created by Jan Vink, a music educator in the Netherlands, these short videos allow you to play along with music using instruments you can find around your house! Click on the playlist tab and select “Percussion play-along.” There are two videos that are ready to go, “Can Can” and “Alla Turka.” You will need a box, a metal can, some cutlery, and a lid. Try playing them with wooden or metal spoons, or even chopsticks from your favorite take-out! For younger students, try slowing down the video using the settings wheel in the lower right corner and then build up to normal speed. For older students, try to adapt one of the other play-along videos that use percussion instruments with ones you have around the house.

Music Play Online is a digital music curriculum that includes games to practice music skills in a fun way, activities to review music skills and concepts, and tons of songs and videos to sing and play! There is a games section to get you started. Songs with lyrics and activity videos are listed under the grade level tabs (pull down menu on some devices).

This website integrates music with other core subjects, and offers many opportunities to have lots of fun while doing so! Some of our favorites are Sequencing with Simon, Musical Fraction Bars, and Morse Code Music!

The instruments of the orchestra have scattered throughout the wilderness! Help Violet and her Uncle Ollie find them and return them to their rightful place on stage in this interactive game. You will explore and learn about the instrument families of the orchestra all while enjoying the beautiful music of the composer, Benjamin Britten.
