Archiving an email will remove it from your Inbox but keep it in your"All Mail" section for future reference.

Deleted emails will go to the Trash label/folder for 30 days, then be gone forever.
Explore the Settings within your EPS Google Email account. You can set an automatic vacation responder and also turn "Conversation View" ON or OFF. (When ON, Conversation View displays all replies to an email within one line in your inbox. Turning it OFF will give each reply its own line in your inbox.)
