At Kingsford School we want everyone to feel safe at our School. A key component of this is to be aware of the way you move around the school and to make sure you are being SAFE at all times. But how can we do this?
What does being SAFE during TRANSITIONS look like?
What does being SAFE during TRANSITIONS look like?
Following the HANDS OFF, FEET OFF expectation.
Being aware of the people and spaces around you.
Holding onto all sports equipment when inside, either keep it in your hands or put it in your bag.
Walking through the corridors.
Keeping your bags on your backs or close to your bodies so others don't get hit or fall over them.
Trying to walk on the left when going up and down stairs.
If you are waiting for a class, line up in 1 straight line against the wall adjacent to your classroom to make space for others moving through the corridor.
Moving to the RIGHT PLACE at the RIGHT TIME quickly and quietly.

Keeping noise to a minimum.
Using appropriate language.
Using respectful language when moving past others. e.g. "Excuse me", "Thanks for holding the door".

W,H&S stands for Workplace, Health and Safety. Think of it like the rules and practices that make sure everyone at school, or any workplace, stays safe and healthy. To keep everyone safe and healthy, W,H & S is a job that everyone is required to perform, not just your teachers. Imagine you're playing a game where everyone needs to follow certain rules so that no one gets hurt and everyone can have fun. W,H&S is like those rules, but for places like schools and workplaces. Unlike lockdown drills, fire drills are more likely to be relevant in real-life situations.
What is the Purpose of a Lockdown Drill?
What is the Purpose of a Lockdown Drill?
Lockdown drills are practiced in schools to prepare students and staff for emergencies that require them to stay inside their classrooms or designated safe areas. These situations might include threats like an intruder, bushfire, gas leak, or other dangerous incidents.
Why Are They Important?
Safety First: Lockdown drills help keep us safe. They teach us what steps to take if something bad happens.
Being Prepared: Just like practicing a dance routine or learning a new skill, we practice lockdown drills so that we’re ready if we ever need to use them.
Staying Calm: When we know what to do, we don’t panic. We stay calm and follow the plan.
Teamwork: Lockdown drills are like teamwork exercises. Everyone works together to keep each other safe.
During a Lockdown Drill or Fire Evacuation Drill you may be expected to transition from whatever activity you are doing to either a new space in the classroom or at the designated meeting space outside of the buildings. You are expected to behave appropriately AT ALL TIMES and follow the teachers' instructions.
Fire Drills and Lockdowns are not opportunities to play games, meet up with friends from other classes or leave the school.
