Standing Strong: Staying Safe from Bullying

Learning Intention

By the end of this module, students will have an understanding of:

Identify different types of bullying and how they affect individuals.
Understand strategies to stay safe and respond effectively to bullying situations.
Recognize the importance of being an upstander and creating a respectful school environment.
Develop personal strategies to promote kindness and inclusivity in their school community.

Success Criteria

Students will be successful when they:

Can explain the different types of bullying and provide examples.
Demonstrate appropriate ways to respond to bullying situations.
Show understanding of how to support peers and contribute to a positive school culture.
Engage in discussions and activities that promote respect, safety, and inclusion.

Recognizing Bullying and Staying Safe

Bullying for a student is when one or more students repeatedly and intentionally try to hurt, intimidate, or control another student. Bullying usually involves an imbalance of power, with the person bullying trying to dominate or harm someone perceived as weaker or more vulnerable.

Bullying comes in different forms, including:

Physical Bullying

Hitting, pushing, or damaging someone’s belongings.

Verbal Bullying

Name-calling, teasing, or making threats.

Social Bullying

Spreading rumours, excluding someone, or embarrassing them.

Cyberbullying

Posting mean comments, sending hurtful messages, or sharing private information online.

How do I stay safe if I’m being Bullied?

Staying safe means being aware of your surroundings, knowing who to turn to for help, and taking some of the steps below when needed.

Stay Calm – Bullies often want a reaction. Try not to show that you’re upset, even though it can be difficult.
Walk Away – If possible, remove yourself from the situation and find a safe place.
Tell Someone – Talk to a teacher, LSA, Youth Worker or trusted adult. You don’t have to face it alone.
Keep Records – If you’re experiencing cyberbullying, take screenshots and save messages as evidence.
Block & Report – If bullying happens online, block the person and report them to the platform or a teacher.

How to Help Others Stay Safe

Be an Upstander – If you see someone being bullied, offer support and get help from an adult.
Look Out for Your Friends – If a friend seems upset or withdrawn, ask if they’re okay.
Encourage Safe Spaces – Join or create school groups that promote kindness and inclusivity.
Spread Positivity – Small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s day.

Creating a Safer School

Every student deserves to feel safe at school. By speaking up, supporting others, and choosing kindness, we can reduce bullying and make school a place where everyone feels welcome. If you or someone you know is being bullied, don’t stay silent—help is always available. please talk to an adult immediately.

Let’s stand together for safety, respect, and kindness. Always see a teacher for support if you're experiencing any bullying.
