Hive life @ Home

Whether you’re in isolation or navigating your community with distance, it’s really important to retain connections with our friends, family and fellow community. Strong connections with family, friends and the community provide people with happiness, security, support and a sense of purpose.

Below are some Margaret Hendry family activities, insights, and experiences to enjoy and engage in.

Spooky Oreo Spiders

To celebrate Halloween, Oreo® gave us a kid-friendly recipe for “spiders” made from their new mini biscuits and black liquorice “legs.” The creepy orange colour crème and liquorice “legs” make a snack that will be frighteningly delicious.

Ingredients:

  • Mini Oreo® biscuits

  • Black liquorice bootlaces

  • Pre-prepared white flavoured icing (two dots per spider)

Method:

  • Using a kitchen scissors, cut the liquorice bootlace into eight legs.

  • Insert 4 pieces of liquorice bootlace into either side of each Mini Oreo®.

  • Using ready-prepared decorating icing, pipe 2 small dots for eyes on each Mini Oreo®.

With Halloween around the corner, why not try one of these spooky treats

Ghoulish Bananas

Ingredients:

  • Bunch of bananas, one per ghost

  • Milk chocolate chips

  • Optional: white chocolate

Method:

  • 1. Slice the bananas at a slight diagonal to balance out the curvature of the banana and allow the bananas to stand up

Floriade Garden

Emma, Catalyia and Sawia have been busy recreating Floriade at home and have kindly created this video to share with the Margaret Hendry community. We absolutely love the combination of flowers, homes and paths to attract the birds and the bees!

Let’s encourage kids to fall in love with life outdoors through time spent in the garden. Gardening doesn’t have to be expensive and can provide many enjoyable hours of activity for all the family! You also don’t need to have a big garden space at home to encourage their love of nature.
