Introduction to landscape design

This week we'll be looking at some basics of landscape design

Complete this task individually. In your Classwork Portfolio, create a new page and call it 'introduction' (or similar). 

1. List what you think is involved in landscape architecture. This can be anything that might be relevant to the process of creating a landscape design or working in the industry. (4-6 dot points)

2. Watch the videos 'What is Landscape Architecture?' and 'Day at Work: Landscape Architect' (embedded below).

3. After watching the videos come up with a description (2-4 sentences) of what is involved in the practice of landscape architecture.

4. Answer the following questions:

   1. Was there anything that you learned in the videos that surprised you? Elaborate on your answer.

   2. Based on what you have seen, what do you think are the three most important things to consider in a landscape design, and why?

1. Look up each of the following influential Australian landscape designers, including one image of a project they have worked on:

   • Kate Cullity 

   • Jim Fogarty 

   • Carolyn Blackman 

   • Paul Bangay 

   • Jamie Durie

2. Which of the 5 landscape architects did you prefer the work of and why?

3. Choose 2 of the designers, include 2 photographic examples of their work and answer the following questions:

   • What kinds of landscape design is the designer typically known for?

   • Does the designer have any aesthetic preferences that you have noticed throughout their projects? (Could be the way they use the design elements/principles, particular materials, plants, styles etc)

Bonus Tasks

1. Do some research into what is needed to become a landscape architect. This could include study, professional licences/memberships, possible career paths and jobs, useful skills (both field specific and transferrable) etc. Compile your findings into a paragraph (minimum).

2. Find a local landscape architect or firm that employs a landscape architect. Write a short analysis of the type of landscape design work they do and the details of a notable local project (with 2-3 images).
