Building Foundations 

This course provides students with the opportunity to learn and develop a range of trade-based skills such as carpentry, surveying and bricklaying. This has been designed for students who are interested in exploring potential pathways and employment within the construction industry. This comprises both practical and theory lessons. Students will be exposed to many of the skills involved with trades in the construction industry and learn skills such as safe use of hand and power tools, reading plans and conducting measurements and calculations. Students are introduced to the key work skills and Workplace Health and Safety requirements of the trades industry.

Wood Technology

These units provide students with the opportunity to discover and develop skills in design and woodworking. Learning how to join timber forms the underlying theme in all projects. An emphasis is placed on skill development, attention to detail, safe and appropriate use of tools and equipment, knowledge and understanding and the development of a portfolio.

Metal Technology

These units introduce students to metal working skills in welding, fabrication, metal machining and sheet metalwork. Using the design process, students will make set and negotiated projects to match their current practical skills while exploring metals and their characteristics.

Jewellery Technology

This course allows students to design, produce and present numerous pieces of quality jewellery. Students will be introduced to a variety of tools and techniques to produce their projects. Using the design process, students will make set and negotiated projects to match their current practical skills.

Textiles

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop and/or improve their sewing skills. Focus will be on the various elements of the design cycle to plan, construct and evaluate a variety of projects. Students will investigate their creative potential using different textile mediums to add designs to their projects.


The Textiles elective in Semester 1 will focus on winter apparel and Semester 2 will focus on summer apparel.
