Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) is made up of four different learning areas: History, Geography, Civics & Citizenship, and Economics and Business. The HASS resources may support students to develop the ability to question, think critically, solve problems, communicate effectively, make decisions and adapt to change as active and informed citizens.
History
The WA Department of Education and Training have created a series of lessons that builds children’s historical understanding of continuity and change, cause and effect, perspectives, empathy and significance.
It aims to develop children’s knowledge of past, present and future in the context of their own personal history and that of their school or community with links to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories.

The British Museum has an enormous collection of historical resources available and designed for learners. They are categorised by age and range from simulation games to fill in the blanks and source studies with attached essay guides. The Ancient Egypt sequence is particularly engaging - digitally mummify and make your way to the afterlife!

The Australian Colonies teaches children to look at the founding of British colonies and the development of a colony. They learn about what life was like for different groups in the colonial period. They examine significant events and people, political and economic developments, social structures and settlement patterns.

The National WWI Museum and Memorial
The National WWI Museum and Memorial is an American organisation that has an incredibly thorough interactive timeline for young people to learn about WWI. They also provide access to a huge online database of primary sources and have easy to follow guidance on analysing and citing sources.

Over the Top is a Canadian resource made by the Canadian War Museum. It is an interactive experience based on real events to give young learners an idea of what life in the trenches during WWI was like. It is a choose your own adventure style experience with several sections, meaning you can play this out repeatedly and discover new things each time.

The Australian War Memorial has a number of resources to support war studies. The virtual tours offered are categorised by equivalent year level and give age-appropriate introductions to the history of Australians at war. The museum also hosts a LiSTNR podcast called 'Up Close: Conversations with modern veterans', which explores a range of contemporary war themes.
