Early literacy is so important in Kindergarten. We work as hard as we can at getting them ready for reading and writing. We do a lot of playing with the alphabet and working with letters and sounds. We use a daily phonemic awareness program called Heggerty to help build reading and writing skills. Home Reading, story read alouds, DEAR (drop everything and read), learning sight words, and making words are all strategies we use to give students the readiness skills they need to become readers.
