One of the biggest goals in Kindergarten is to foster independence in our young learners. By the end of Kindergarten you can expect your child to dress and undress themselves for recess (put on snow pants, zip coats, do up shoes/ boots, put on mittens and touques). They will also be able to look after their belongings and keep them tidy in their lockers. Students also learn to unpack and pack up their backpacks. One of the biggest things we work on is teaching them to advocate for themselves, to use their words and ask for help if they need it.
We encourage you to download and print this checklist and answer according to your child's independence level. This will help you get a stronger understanding of areas of strength and areas of growth. We will be working on fostering and growing their independence each day at school!
