“Virtual Learning 2.0” will occur across the district (4K/Levi Leonard/Theodore Robinson/JC McKenna/EHS) in the event Rock County shifts to Phase 1, or an entire building is forced to shut down in Phase 2 or Phase 3. The biggest difference between the Virtual Learning plan last Spring and Virtual Learning 2.0 is that in our current 2.0 format, teachers will be teaching live from their classrooms (utilizing a combination of Google Meet and Google classroom on a combination of technology devices including a Chromebook and an iPad that will function as the camera). This approach does not come without barriers, however. We acknowledge that our families who live in the country may have internet connectivity issues. We will be providing hot spots to families that need access. Additionally, we are in conversation with an Evansville community agency about utilizing their large space to provide high speed WiFi internet to students during school hours.
Some key points related to Virtual Learning 2.0 are as follows:
Google Classroom will be the platform for the delivery and collection of student work; Google Meet within Google Classroom will be the communication software. Returning students have an assigned Chromebook. Any student without one will be provided one.
Teachers will maintain the pacing and fidelity of the curriculum offered in the in-building, in-person classroom setting.
Teachers will be teaching from their classrooms (unless a building-wide shutdown occurs); teachers will be available from 7:45am - 3:15pm Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 7:45am - 4:15pm Monday and Wednesday to families/students when they are not delivering live instruction.
Normal assessment and grading practices will be in place for all students.
Students will participate in synchronous, or “real time” learning via Google Meet to include whole class lessons as well as small group instruction.
Expectations for overall attendance will be communicated by each school. Expectations for class period attendance/engagement will be communicated by the teacher along with the daily schedule.
An asynchronous, or “recorded” option may be available for much of the instruction.
The district appreciates community and staff input. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas related to the reopening plan, please email Scott Everson, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, at VirtualLearning@evansville.k12.wi.us.
