Interpreting through images

Reading poetry is a challenge. Using images will lead to a better understaning of the title, the lines, and the stanzas.

Although images are related to visual, all of the five senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell) can respond to what a poet writes.

Through the project the students were invited to use images for understanding and picturing the poem. Some of them even felt encouraged and used images in writing their poems.

Terrarium

I like how when talking about someone's personality

we talk about their nature.

Maybe that's what we really are,

our own little environments.

As we live,

we let small bits of ourselves grow and spread,

and others rot and die.

And although we can try

to garden certain parts of ourselves

Somethings can't live in who we are,

or in who others are.

(Untitled)

With every breath I take

I let a little of myself out

and a little of the world in.
