Across the MYP, CP and DP, Community Engagement connects learning with the world beyond the classroom. While each IB programme has its own framework and requirements, they share a common purpose: helping students develop the knowledge, character and agency to participate thoughtfully and responsibly in their communities.

In the MYP, students build the foundations for community engagement by exploring issues and systems, developing relationships, taking principled action, and reflecting on what they learn. As students move into the CP or DP, this foundation develops into increasingly independent and sustained engagement.

In the CP, Community Engagement is a core component of the programme. Students deepen their understanding through reciprocal dialogue, systems awareness, ethical thinking and action, and reflective and reflexive practice.

In the DP, Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) provides a broader experiential learning framework. Through CAS experiences and the CAS project, students pursue their interests, collaborate with others, take initiative and reflect on their growth. Within the Service strand, students continue to develop meaningful and reciprocal relationships with communities.

Across all three programmes, we want students to move beyond simply doing service.

We want them to understand before acting, build authentic relationships, learn through experience, question their assumptions, take informed and principled action, and reflect on both their learning and their impact.

Community Engagement therefore becomes a continuum of growth:
