Languages are essential to every aspect and interaction in everyday lives. Students are confronted with the need to master languages to access the best academic, educational and professional opportunities. The WLP at Campus des Nations provides native language speakers a means to access their mother tongue curriculum and encourages multilingual learning for beginner and intermediate speakers.
Students have the possibility to study languages which are not in the curriculum with WLP. WLP are private tuition lessons and take place with the student's timetables in mind. Lessons can be individual or group lessons and fees are adjusted according to the number of participants.
TRY IT OUT possible with the teacher’s consent and are invoiced.
To know one's mother tongue well, gives access to one’s cultural identity; one's roots.
The knowledge of one’s mother tongue supports the cognitive development of each child and adolescent.
Learning one's mother tongue enhances children’s linguistic and educational development.
Encouraging the mother tongue facilitates the transfer of skills and concepts to the working languages of the school.
Mother tongues are fragile and easily lost in early years if not used or studied.
Currently, tutorials are available in Arabic, Albanian, Chinese, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish,Tamil and Thai.
The Coordinator will endeavour to facilitate a class in any language in which parents are interested.
Please note that we do not organise world language lessons for Pre-Reception children.
For Reception children the decision to join world language lessons will be made after discussion with the school principal and class teacher as some of our youngest children may find a one to one or small group language lesson too tiring after the end of their school day.
Languages are taught on campus outside the curriculum, from Early Years to IB level.
Students are grouped according to levels and age whenever possible.
The IB Programme option is open to students in Years 12 and 13 in preparation for an IB exam in Language A or B. Assessments are included in the formal academic reports. IB courses will be planned individually in line with the student's timetable.
Language A is not a language of acquisition and may be self-taught. The school will organise a tutor if possible in order to accompany the student through the programme.
Language B is a language of acquisition and cannot be self-taught. A tutor is required.
The Non Exam Programme option is open to all students from Years 1 to 13. Assessments are included in the academic reports. The Teacher/Coordinator will confirm the schedule and venue of the lessons.
The IB Units of Inquiry are considered whenever possible in addition to developing linguistic abilities.
Students on the French and Spanish courses will be able to sit the DELF, DALF and DELE exams, depending on their level.
The teachers are available to discuss this possibility with the parents of interested students.
